About Janet
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Janet bought her first guitar at age 12. In early adulthood she developed a dedicated passion for music and began touring with numerous bands both nationally and internationally. She first began composing music for films and videos in 1990 and then literally fell into her full potential in 1996 after taking a bad spill in a playground while babysitting for a friend. Having badly injured her knee, Janet was temporarily hobbled into a subdued lifestyle which could no longer include working with autistic children. At this point, however, film score contracts suddenly started beating a path to her door and Janet realized a life-long dream to live off her music...

Hearth of Gold

" Mom, are you home?" as we answered the phone screaming down the hall.
"No, I'm putting my face on. " she said as she rushed around the house.
I am busy as a musician, sax player, film composer and activist, and the director of the Montreal Asian Heritage Festival. My mother, Jean Betsy Lumb is busy at a helm of a nuclear family of 23 including 9 grandchildren. She has more energy than the whole family put together and is continuing to improve on her wellbeing. She can now touch her toes at the tender age of 81. My mother is the source of my inspirations.

Revolution in Three Part Harmony

"Eventually I'd like to dissolve the Asian Heritage Festival," co-founder Janet Lumb says over a giant bowl of café au lait. "I'd like it to be just artists, period. But that's the long term."
As a former social worker, composer, musician, band member and driving force behind the festival, Lumb's numerous projects transcend the written word. Of course, "tireless" may also run in the family. Her mother, Jean Lumb, received an Order of Canada for her contribution in the fight to get Chinese-Canadians the vote some 50 years ago...
